Targeting Opponents
How do you all maintain targets in PvP?
I find the target selection process very clumsy in 8v8 pvp especially when your are gvging (with npcs involved) and when you are facing a team using spirits and/or pets.
I'm not talking about following calls here, more off-call targeting such as a mesmer may have to do. A better example may be a Ele blindbot. The ele will have to follow spikes with his Lightning Orb for example, but keep an eye on the opponents melee characters, trying to blind them as they unleash a adren spike. This means the ele is constantly looking forward, checking to see if he is in casting range of the spike target while scanning back to the warriors to keep an eye on a fenzy or flail kicking in.
As far as I'm aware, you can't bind opponents player numbers to the keyboard and you can't assign self-called targets, so apart from keeping a visual 'lock' on your targetted opponent, or tabbing like mad is there any other way that allows easy switching between say three targets?
Excuse my ignorance if this is basic stuff, I have a fear of instruction booklets.

Just click on the people you want to target. If you don't want to do anything to them yet hold your null action key (Default is "Shift", I think, but I don't play Guild Wars anymore and refuse to log in to check, because ANET might think that they have one more "active" player...) down while clicking on them.
It takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it it's extremely easy and effecient.

Well, when playing a bsurge, you should always have your eyes trained on the warriors. You don't have to necessarily keep them targeted, but watch the screen and minimap and see where they go. Pretty much every other job can be done passively. You can LOrb on spikes by just hitting T and pressure with it by just hitting target next a few times and finding an unprotted target. Just keep decent positioning and you really shouldn't have to take more than a couple steps to get into spike range.
Personally, I almost always catch warriors by using my target closest (I use z,x,c as my targeting), but that's only because you can mostly rely on them being closest to you. I click to target whenever I'm looking for a specific target that isn't a warrior or the field's pretty messy. If there's heavy pets/spirits that are getting in the way of your targeting, just rely more on clicking than the targeting keys.

Looking at where the enemy party members are and directly clicking on them can give you a much better understanding of the game too...
